Doors Wide Open Day at Rutherglen United Reformed Church
On Saturday 24th March the Church in Johnstone Drive Rutherglen held its first Doors Wide Open Day event.
The church literally opened its doors for the whole afternoon and welcomed members of the local community and beyond to see what happens in this wee local church.
The event was well supported and visitors came in to see what was happening throughout the afternoon.
Every corner of the sanctuary, the hall and meeting rooms was used to accommodate displays and demonstrations from participating groups.
The Scout group even utilised outdoor spaces to demonstrate their firelighting and camping skills!
Visitors were entertained by Jump n Jive dance group members and even joined in some of the dances.Onlookers were wowed by TaeKwondo demonstrations. Yoga taster sessions were very popular too. All of these groups use the church premises each week for their classes.
Local groups such as Carrot (talking newspaper for the blind) Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank, Re:Volve Clothing, Christian Aid, Rutherglen and Cambuslang Carers and Project 31 all took part in the event.
The Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society came all the way from Edinburgh to take part and enjoyed the opportunity to strengthen ties with the church community.
Rangers Guides Brownies and Rainbows had a wonderful tabletop display and the church’s own Go Ahead club had a display of photographs which were enjoyed by many of the visitors.
The Castlemilk Furniture Ministry and Family Action in Rogerfiejd and Easterhouse were also at the event, both groups are supported by members of the URC congregation.
Rutherglen High School who already have a link with the church through the work of John Sanderson the minister also had a PowerPoint display on show.
Teas and coffees were available all afternoon and gave visitors a chance to sit and chat and get to know one another.
The church also used the event as an opportunity to publicise future services and events which people may wish to consider attending.
It certainly was an action packed afternoon which was enjoyed by everyone
who attended.

Doors Wide Open Day 2018
We want to be open and welcoming to everyone.
We will have an "open day" on Saturday 24th March 2018. Come along between 1:00pm and 4:00pm for demonstrations from people who use our halls and for free tea and coffee.

69 Johnstone Drive RUTHERGLEN G73 2QA We are in Johnstone Drive in Rutherglen, at the corner with Mill Street. We are less than ten minutes walk from Rutherglen train station. First busses come close to the church, numbers 7A & 18 are on Stonelaw Road and numbers 21, 46 & 65 are on Mill Street. There is a small car park next to the church as well as on street parking. There is a large car park at Rutherglen Health Centre which is also accessed from Johnstone Drive. |
